Refugees and Internally-Displaced Children: Advocacy

Advocacy Efforts

 

Youth Advocate Program International supports the protection of rights and services to children living in refugee camps, and to those children that are internally-displaced through our contacts and partners worldwide working directly and indirectly on this issue.

Refugee and internally-displaced children (IDC) became a new issue for YAP International in 2004.


YAP International has published:

  • We are currently gathering research for a book on refugee and internally-dispcaed children that will become part of our series of books on children's issues
  • Special Report on the Convention on the Rights of the Child in the United States

YAP International Recent Refugee Children and IDC Advocacy Efforts:

• Attended a special briefing of the Congressional Refugee Caucus regarding child refugees.

• Attended a film debut on refugee youth living in the United States held jointly by the Congressional Human Rights Caucus and Congressional Refugee Caucus.

• Creating a new curriculum and support materials on Refugee Children and IDC for use in high schools.

• Developed a new user-friendly website with information on the issue of Refugee Children and IDC.

• Continue to increase attention and financial support to the issue of Refugee Children and IDC.
